LIVERPOOL – MY TEAM AND MY FRUSTRATION

November 6th, 2009

LIVERPOOLI’m a Liverpool fan since I was a kid.  Those days in the 80ties, Liverpool was a dominant team in England and Europe.  I would stay awake just to watch Liverpool on TV. Players like Rush, Dalglish, Barnes, Souness and Beardsly are among my all time favorite players.

Lately their performance is not to their standard.  They are 6th on the table with 9 points behind the league leader Chelsea.  Their last 8 games resulted in just 1 win, 1 draw and 6 losses in all competition.

I was hoping after demolishing MU 2-0 on 25th Oct they could start winning and climbing up the table.  But it did not happen.  Now from what I see, their title challenge is fading away and their Champion League’s campaign might be only at group level.  I still do believe that Liverpool will be among the top 4 teams by end of the season.

What Liverpool needs to do is to improve on the defense.  They have allowed 16 goals in 11 matches.  That’s about 1.5 goals allowed per game compared to Chelsea at 0.7 and MU at 1 and I think that’s too many for a team that eyeing for the league title.  Their defense was far better last season compared to this season.

Liverpool depends heavily on Gerrard and Torres.  If these two players did not play or did not play to their best, the team just seemed to loose their spirit.  The bad news for Liverpool fan now is that both of these keys players are in injured list.

For the last couple of seasons, Liverpool did get quality players to play for them.  Players like Stan Collymore,Craig Bellamy, Robbie Keane, Djibril Cisse, Jermaine Pennant are proven to be good players with their old clubs in the league.  Unfortunately, they could not play to their tag when with the Reds.  Liverpool just could not find the right combination for them.  The coaching staffs could not grow these players into a strong team.  And I think that is one of the reasons Liverpool failed to do in the 90s until now.

As a Liverpool fan, I would like to see some changes in the coaching staffs.  Coaching staffs that can blend good players into a good team.  A team which does not depends on certain players only.  Liverpool needs to get a fresh central defender to upgrade their defense.  This will take time but many Liverpool fan just can’t wait any longer to see their team winning the EPL.

Alabama Crimson Tide

October 17th, 2009

rolltide2I was surfing when came across the college football.  It has been a long time, more than 10 years,  I have not followed American football.  Checking the ranking, I was surprised that my Tide is ranked 2nd in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll after Florida with a 6-0 record.  But in the USA Today Poll, they put Alabama in the 3rd position after Florida and Texas.

I was at University of Alabama from 1987 to 1989.  Yes, at Tuscaloosa Alabama, home of the Crimson Tide.  Alabama Crimson Tide is rich with football history.  They won the National Championship more than ten times.  And I’m not sure how many time they won the SEC conference.

But during my stayed there(1987-1989), their performance was, I would say, mediocre.  In fact, we even lost our homecoming game in 1988.  And those three years, we lost to Auburn.  They called the Auburn game as a Iron game.  The Auburn game is important to both University, from what I see, because whoever won will claim that they are the number one football team in the state.  But in 1989, we made it to the Sugar Bowl, and unfortunately were beaten by Miami.

I just hope Tide will always roll and beat Auburn this season.  I also wish they would maintain their current good form and finally go to Sugar Bowl to claim the National Champion.

Touchdown Alabama!
Roll Tide Roll!
