Family Outing – Genting Highland

December 17th, 2009

 genting1

I’m still at Genting while writing this post.  Like most Malaysian parent, year end school holiday is the time to take family for ‘Cuti-Cuti Malaysia’.  This time we decided to head for Genting since I promised them last year when their youngest were able to walk, than only I took them to Genting.

After two days in here, the kids were the only one enjoyed staying.  Of course there are some complaints coming from them especially when we passed some of the rides due to too many people lining up.  We had to wait for almost an hour to get to ride the Flaying Dragon.

My eldest were really upset when we did not ride the cable car.  I only see scary rather than joy when taking the cable car.  Our ride at Langkawi’s cable car was the first and last one in a cable car…….that’s what I told them.

For me Genting Highland is not the best time to be there during school break.  Not only the price for a room is expensive during that period, but also you have to deal with too crowded place.  It gets tough when you have small child or baby.  You got to line up from getting ticket for the rides to getting your food.  And most of the rides you got to queue.

The room that we are staying is small compared to the same amount of money we pay for in other hotel or places.  It got no view and also you need to get hot water outside your room.  Because the hotel is so big, it’s quite a distance from our room to the lobby.

Food here is expensive.  I’m not sure is it because of the peak season or is it just the same price all season long.  It costs me RM 16 for two cups of Milo and 2 cups of Tea.   I had to add Rm3o for my two children for breakfast since the coupon only serves for 2 person.  And I think for Rm3o is too expensive considering the variety of the food is limited.  We spent at Rm60++ on our food either for lunch or dinner for 2 adult and 2 children.

The Snow World did not impress me at all.  I think it is just one big freezer.  The snow is like a small/tiny ice cube.  They should make the snow falling for every trip to the Snow World.  But the most that irritated me is the boot and gloves they provided were already wet.  So just imagine how comfortable it’s like wearing a wet pair of boot and gloves in a cold refrigerator.  They also do not have jacket for kids around 2 years old.

Tomorrow is another half day for us to explore Genting Highland.  My earlier plan was to ride the cable car tomorrow and than we check out from our hotel room.  Since I chicken out already for the ride, I guess we’ll leave early and probably stop by at any beautiful scenery along the way.

Family Outing – Bowling

November 17th, 2009
Not happy after missing a strike

Ben 10 not happy after missing a strike

Not much you can do when it rains non stop.  You just got to skip all your usual outdoor activity, and stay at home???  No way I could do that.  So, I decided to take our family for a round of bowling game.

Our Bowling team

I’m not good at it. But, rather than staying home watching TV only, why not throw some balls.

When we got there, only 3 lanes out of 22 were free.  Looks like Kluang people love playing bowling.  I can’t remember when Kluang had their first bowling lanes.  One thing for sure, that first bowling lanes was at a shopping complex outside town area.  Now the same bowling lanes were relocated at a new shopping complex, that is the Kluang Prade after its first home was closed down.

I would not want to tell you the final scores of our games.  It was very bad.  One of our ball got stucked in that small  semi circular channel (Longkang) and can only be saved by the Bowling Centre’s attendant.  Well one of the reason for our ‘bad showing” is of course, this is only the second bowling game for us after the first one a year ago.  And, I would conclude….. bowling is definitely not our family game!

Family Outing – Jungle Trekking to Gunung Lambak

October 25th, 2009

I was supposed to ride bike with friends from Kluang Mountain Bike Club today morning.  We supposed to meet at Petronas Jalan Rengam not later than 0645am.  But, due to problem with my bike (puncture and no spare tube), I had to cancel the trip.

A bit disappointed caused that trip would be the first with the guys after fasting month and Hari Raya.

Instead, I took my family to jungle trekking to Gunung Lambak.  It’ not that far from our house, less than 10km.   We managed to get there around 0715am.

I used to climb this Gunung many times in 1996. The trek was a practice ground for me  before climbing Mount Kinabalu.  My best time was not more than 45minutes to reach the top.  But that was long time ago when I was still fit.

Here are some of the pictures I captured during the trip.

Crossing the ‘hanging bridge’ .….

Well, it was a good outing. Nobody complaint of tired or anything except me caused I had to carry my youngest during uphill and downhill!

They built a resort down here a couple of years ago and also a big public swimming pool. People come here with families for swimming, jungle trekking, meditating, camping or just to enjoy the green scenery.  Today there is even a tour bus with load of tourist trying to conquer the peak of Gunung Lambak.

I also notice, a lot of Malays now doing the trekking compare to only a number of them, three years back.  I guess everybody is now understands the good thing come out from doing exercise.  I hope we all from Kluang could maintain the beauty of Gunung Lambak so that it can be shared with future generation who enjoy outdoor activity.

Now I feel good and can’t just with to watch Liverpool crush MU tonite….Don’t miss it.
